I have a lot of memories of Syonan Japanese Academy. I went to see beautiful scenery with the teachers, such as the highest mountains in Japan Mt. Fuji, Tokyo Disneyland, and Kakegawa Kachoen. It is also a good memory to have a meal with teachers and classmates. The teachers kindly gave me guidance when I had various problems or things I didn't understand. The teachers consulted with me about anything like their own children. There were so many things that I got helped from school. I am really grateful. I will always remember the words I received from the teachers in my heart and will continue to do my best in Japan. Life in Hamamatsu was fun because I spent time with people and friends from various countries. Even at my part-time job, the manager and the Japanese co-workers kindly taught me various things.

It is a precious memory for me to meet and study with teachers and friends at Syonan Japanese Language Institute. When I was depressed, I sometimes wanted to give up. At that time, the teachers listened to me kindly. Thanks for the advice, it really helped me. Life in Hamamatsu was very good. Food and rent are cheap, and there are many part-time jobs. I think it's easy for foreigners to live in.

I think studying abroad in Japan is a good opportunity. Everyone, please cherish that opportunity. Part-time work is important, but since we are students, studying first. Also, be careful about your health. It can be difficult in Japanese life, but it can also be fun. Always do your best positively.

When I was in the first year, I enjoyed speech contests and sports competitions in addition to studying Japanese. It was nice to be able to communicate with classmates from overseas such as Vietnam and Indonesia. When I was in the second year, there was a period of time that I couldn't go to school because of the corona virus. Life was hard because I had less part-time job. The teachers at Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus kindly responded to such problems. The most memorable thing about my school life is that I was able to communicate with my classmates in Japanese and get to know each other. Hamamatsu, where the school is located, has lakes, mountains, and the sea, and is a place rich in nature. It's a very comfortable place to live.

What made you decide to enroll in Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus?
There might be no reason and it was fortuitous. Before studying abroad, I often wondered where to go in Japan. After all, Tokyo is good, but the city is very lively. Since it was the first time I came to Japan, I thought a little quiet place would be better. I thought it would be good to move to a big city after getting used to life in Japan, so I decided to enroll in this school.

Talking about this makes it a bit long. At the age of 19, I couldn't imagine going to study abroad for the first time. I really had no experience in social life and always depended on my parents. In other words, it is difficult to study abroad in Japan alone. But contrary to what I expected, it wasn't really that bad. I think I was thinking too much. The teachers weren't that strict and I was grateful that they always took care of the students. Above all, I was glad that they often talked to the students and found out students' struggle. Thanks to that, I overcame my homesickness. The reason why they can do such a difficult thing is that the hearts of the teachers are as wide as the sea. Specially, I am grateful to Mr. Oshiro, who was alway giving instruction for my life. The happiest moment was the Christmas party. Whenever I think about that time, I really want to go back. I really miss those times when I decorate with everyone, prepare food, clean .... My life was a little busy, but it was fun. I don't think it was very hard.
Please leave a message to your juniors, something you want to tell them.
I'm not enough to be called a senior, but ... I have a little experience as a person who has lived in Japan for two years, so I would like to tell people who coming to Japan for the first time. Perhaps Hamamatsu is a comfortable place to live and people are kind. However, it is not good to ignore studying Japanese language. Now, I live in the city, and even if I have an N2 certificate, my speaking skill is pretty bad. People in the city spoke so fast that sometimes I couldn't catch it at all. Kanji is also important. Even if you want to go on to higher education, if you can't read Kanji characters, it's very difficult. Can't talk, can't read Kanji, do you think you can do something with it? Therefore, I think it is better to study hard for the first two years and at least have a "real N2 level".
Then, you should follow the manners as a member of society. I also hate the word "shakaijin", but it can't be helped. You have to do your hair, clothes, learn how to talk, and even how to sit. Japanese society is tough. The teachers may be strict, but compared to society, it's nothing. If you are late or forget something it will be your mistake. Please do your best not to bother the others. Are you noisy in your apartment at night? Everyone works all day and comes home. It's time to rest at night, so please be quiet in everything you do.

Life in Japan is not only fun, but also worrisome. However, I think if you are not afraid to take on the challenge no matter what, you will be able to succeed someday. Please consult the school if anything happens. That may solve the problem. I want to tell you that it is important to study hard to achieve your dreams, to try various things and do your best without giving up.

Teachers helped me when I didn’t know what to do.

I came to Japan in April 2018, and I am currently studying Japanese at Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus. I decided to study in Japan when I was still in Vietnam. I had no idea which school would fit for me. I was really worried about how to apply for a part-time job too. That was when my Vietnamese teacher introduced Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus to me. He said this school is outstanding. Now I have spent one year in Japan, and I clearly understand what my teacher was trying to tell me. When I came to Japan, I didn’t know what to do but teachers helped me a lot. They suggested several part-time jobs for me, and it was very helpful. Now I have no issues living in Japan because of such teachers. If you are worried about school life in Japan, you don’t have to. Let’s study at Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus together.

I’ve passed N2 and I could enter a university with scholarship.

Everybody has own dreams. To realize those dreams, we must have a plan and work hard for it. I was no exception. My objective during these two years studying at Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus was to gain the N2 certificate and to enter a university. Everyday, I studied hard and finally I passed the N2 exam. Also, I was not only accepted by a university but awarded as a scholarship student. When I learned about the result of the exam, I was so happy and speechless. During those two years I learned that anybody can succeed if we try hard enough. This achievement will keep me motivated to accept next challenge in my life. I think small success will make big difference. Lastly, I really would like the students at Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus to keep trying no matter how tough your situation can be.

They taught us not only Japanese language but also life in Japan.

Almost 2 years passed since I came to Japan to study. For those 2 years, I learned a lot at Syonan Japanese Academy Hamamatsu Campus. At first, I could not understand anything about Japanese living and culture. Teachers taught us not only language but also life in Japan. When I was involved with a car accident or became sick, I could always ask teachers how to resolve it. After graduating the school, we have to do everything by ourselves. In my future life I will always remember my teachers at the school. I really appreciate them from the bottom of my heart.

I was able to grow up during those 2 years.

I felt it like a fate when an opportunity to study in Japan was given to me. I was able to meet with a lot of kind Japanese friends. I strongly believe that I became a better person than I was in Vietnam. In these two years, sometimes I wanted to return to my country when my life was difficult. But I've never regretted learning in Japan. I found how important my parents are, and the value of earning money after working my part-time jobs is. If I stayed with my parents in Vietnam, I could not change my personality. Soon I still start my new life as a college student. Many tough things must be waiting for me. I’m ready to deal with them. I’ll keep working hard to make my life better. I had great experiences here in Japan, and am really grateful for it.

I will never give up my dream and will keep studying!

In April 2017, I came to Japan. At first it was really difficult for me to understand Japanese language. It was a hard time for me. After an exam at school, I could easily find my name from the bottom part of the score list. That was when I changed my lazy mind, and decided to do my best. I started working on my homework alone. After my Japanese improved, I passed the N3 exam. To enter the technical school, I made effort to study Japanese and mathematics very hard everyday. My future dream is to become an engineer here in Japan. So when I passed the exam of the automobile technical school, I felt really achieved. After the graduation of the school I am going to work for a Japanese company. The most important thing is always doing your best! I will never give up my dream and will keep studying!
